Checking In From Milan Fashion Week

by Ela Ryback ‘25

Visiting Milan, Italy, one of the world’s biggest fashion capitals, is a notable experience, especially during Fashion Week. Similar to New York and Paris Fashion Weeks, Milan Fashion Week attracts some of the most well-known celebrities, designers, and brands. However, with Italy being home to exquisite leather goods and one of the most notable brands – Gucci – Milan Fashion Week stands out above the rest.

Fashion Week started off strong with the introduction of some new lead designers and the revitalization of established designers. Some established designers like Fausto Puglisi of Rober Cavalli reintroduced a more classical look into the women’s designs this year. However, exotic pieces were still the heart of the Robert Cavalli fashion show. As I looked around, I saw hundreds of people in their most fashionable outfits waiting for models and celebrities to arrive. One by one, invitees entered dressed in a fashion that forecasts new trends: animal-print and leather products. The trends for the rest of year were clearly unfolding in front of the audience before the show began. However, the models in the show itself followed a classic, yet seductive, marble theme created by Puglisi.

The Gucci show, located on the outskirts of Milan, attracted a thousand spectators and notable celebrities including many K-Pop stars. Anna Wintour’s arrival stood out due to her vivid red leather pea coat. While watching models, influencers, and celebrities enter the showroom, it was evident that slip dresses and earth tones are favored by these trendsetting guests. Sabato De Sarno, head Gucci designer, noted that although he prefers simpler designs, it was important to compromise for this show, which is why colors like bright red and green were popular not just with Anna Wintour but on the runway.
