Meet New Blogger, Anna
By Anna Lipscomb ‘19
Hello everyone!
My name is Anna, and I’m double majoring in International Relations and East Asian Languages & Culture (emphasis on China).
About Me
This is where I’ll tell a little bit about who I am and how I came to be. One of the first things that people tend to notice about me is my last name because it doesn’t exactly match my face. To explain, I was adopted from China and raised in San Jose, (Northern) California. Since I didn’t grow up with my culture, I’m trying to spend more time exploring it in college through different cultural events and organizations.
…and here I am now - a Trojan. My journey getting here was a bit different than the typical one you hear about because I was a spring admit, which meant I came in the spring semester rather than the fall. Although waiting a semester was difficult, I’m very happy with my experience and wouldn’t trade it for another. It gave me the opportunity to spend a semester doing something I always wanted to do - study abroad. I went to Spain to practice my Spanish and improve my cross-cultural communications skills. There, I met people from all over the world and got to experience what it was like to be an international student in a new country, language, and culture.
In Spain, the Americans (and other international students) decorated our dorm for Thanksgiving.
Not only did I learn how to be more independent, but I also learned how to befriend people from diverse backgrounds, which is something that happens on a daily basis at USC. I also had the chance to visit cities like Paris and Barcelona.
I can’t wait to see what other adventures I’ll go on during my time at USC!
Right before finals week, my friend and I went to Paris. My favorite place was the Palace of Versailles.
Fun Facts & Interests
1. I enjoy crime shows like Person of Interest, The Mentalist, and Psych. Lately, I’ve been watching The West Wing on Netflix, which I love because it’s an older TV series and is somewhat related to IR. (Sadly, most of these shows have already ended, so if anyone has any recommendations, send them my way! :) )
2. I have a habit of accidently answering my own questions at times.
3. When I was growing up, I did gymnastics, cheerleading, soccer, tennis, volleyball, karate, and swimming - but not all at the same time! That being said, I do not consider myself to be athletic.
4. It makes my day when people send me funny gifs and memes.
5. I self-taught myself guitar and ukulele.
6. I have a love for classics - especially movies and books. My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice.
7. I am obsessed with Post-it notes. If you were to walk into my apartment, you would literally see them everywhere.
Here I am with other spring admits at an Explore LA trip to Santa Monica.
Trojans 360 & Me
At such a diverse and global place, no two Trojans are alike. As a blogger for Trojans 360, my goal is to show you different angles and perspectives of USC life as we explore what it means to be a Trojan. I hope to give a voice to the people, clubs, and opportunities on campus, as well as offer some tips and tricks to thing such as study abroad and spring admission. People say college is the best years of your life - and I’m here to help you make the most of it.
Fight on!
