By Jamie Wu ‘18

Hey friends! My name is Jamie and I’m a sophomore studying Industrial and Systems Engineering.

My Background

I was born in Guangzhou, China, and then I moved to Seattle, Washington when I was 7, and now I’m here in sunny southern California. I consider myself a 1.5 generation Asian American, meaning I was a foreign-born citizen who immigrated to a new country of residence at a very young age.

I love Chinese culture because of its rich and long history and holidays. Also because dim sum is bomb. I love learning about other people’s cultures because it opens up my perspective on so many political, religious and cultural topics! And after all, why shouldn’t we connect with as many people from across the world as we can when we’re so close to them here at USC?

My Goals and Aspirations

If I could pick a dream job, it would be being a YouTuber. I have my own YouTube channel and I love making videos! Whether they’re videos about how to get along with your college roommate or vlogs or music covers, recording and editing videos are so fun. The feeling of being able to help or make someone laugh because of my videos is awesome. Some of my favorite YouTubers include Swoozie and Connor Franta because they’re so funny.

A goal I have is to do/watch something that inspires me everyday because we’re given such a short amount of time here on earth and I don’t want to regret thinking “What could’ve been”.

After graduation, I hope to travel across Southeast Asia because they have some of the world’s most beautiful cities!

Some Fun Facts About Me

1. Favorite TV show: Whose Line is it Anyway? (the older version)
2. Favorite Movie(s): Spirited Away and the Dark Knight
3. I also make a lot of bad jokes that none of my friends laugh at so I guess that’s cool lol
4. I have a fear of irregular or clustered holes–it’s a real thing and it’s called trypophobia
5. I love singing! But I’m really selective about what songs I listen to so I have like 40 songs on Spotify haha
6. I love psychology because it teaches me about how humans function in social settings, how to persuade people (a very useful skill) and how my brain works!

Why I Joined Trojans 360

There’s always something going on at USC and I want to capture all the cultural events, concerts and cool shows and bring awareness of how diverse our community is. There are also a lot of common struggles like how to deal with finals or figuring out our major that I can showcase in my videos so people know they’re not alone. I want to make videos on cultural inclusivity, problems within our campus and things that students should be aware of so they can be better citizens of our campus.
