A Weekend Getaway: Portland + Seattle
By Samantha Romero ‘16
I’ve had the travel bug ever since I got back from living in Paris. So it’s no surprise that I took advantage of Thanksgiving break for a quick getaway up North. Here’s a look into what we did along the way.
VooDoo Doughnuts
If you have a sweet tooth like me then make sure to stop by the famous Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland. Their one of a kind treats will leave your mouth watering for more. My favorite was the Voodoo doll and Voodoo bubble doughnut.
Ace Hotel Portland
Having visited the Ace Hotel locations in Palm Springs and Downtown Los Angeles, I simply had to add Ace Hotel Portland onto my list. It’s also my one stop shop to take memorable photo strips in original photo booths.
Hiking Trails in Oregon
Despite our attempt to hike the beautiful lush trails in Oregon, our GPS lost signal while en route, I recommend printing or taking photos of directions beforehand. However we did find some sweet horses to pet along the way. Also don’t forget to do some hiking trail research before your trip, Oregon has some of the most beautiful trails like Abiqua and Silvercreek Falls.
Clam Chowder at Pike Place
This is an absolute must-try. Pike Place Chowder is Seattle’s Award-Winning Chowder. They have 8 different chowders to choose from including: New England Clam Chowder, Smoked Salmon Chowder, Market Chowder, Clam Chowder, Chicken and Corn Chowder, Seafood Bisque, Seared Scallop Chowder, Manhattan Style Chowder and… WAIT FOR IT… Vegan Chowder. It’s the perfect meal to warm up during the chilly weather in the North.
First Starbucks Ever
For all the Starbies lovers, this is the ultimate must-see!
Seattle’s Public Market
Bustling with vendors and tourists, Seattle’s Public Market reminds me a lot of DTLA’s Grand Central Market. It’s a large farmer’s market where you can find fresh produce and a quick tasty meal. It’s also the perfect location for an Instagram selfie-op next to the famous Public Market sign.
