Project Playlist - New Music from Black SC

By Joy Ofodu ‘18

The Thornton kids aren’t the only ones producing music; various members of USC’s Black Student Assembly (affectionately nicknamed Black SC) have created enough bangers and slow jams to last you all Fall ‘17! Whether you’re warming up your dance moves for the last few ragers or trying to stay warm during cuddle season, these projects definitely belong on your playlist:

Bran Movay - Flower Talk

Flower Talk dropped this summer and provides the perfect escape from a hectic day; Bran’s husky vocals and delightful features from other student artists, including Tsega and Tina Giná will transport you to somewhere peaceful.

In 12 tracks of straight fire, Follow Bronx rapper, Tyreece Santana takes you through a day in the Bronx with his debut mixtape, “After School Special.” The mixtape is a tribute to his relationship with hip-hop and his neighborhood.

LAMI - Silhouette and Ravelle

Student: David Friebe
Major: Performance (Popular Music)

I recently had the pleasure of co-starring in LAMI’s newest music video for “Silhouette”, shot and produced by students from the USC School of Cinematic Arts! Talk about a true Trojan collaboration; it’s hard to believe that this video was made by students! Additionally, the cover photo for LAMI’s other single, Ravelle, was designed by Animation and Digital Arts major Marcus Burke.

Both singles are a part of LAMI’s new EP, dropping this Friday! You can find more on his Facebook Page, LAMI Musik.

Tsega - Raisins and Happy Tears

Student: Gracie Tsganesh Gebrasillasie
Major: Art

Tsega’s most recent single “Raisins” is inspired by Langston Hughes and can best be described as “poetry-rap.” You won’t soon forget her unique style; I suggest playing this one after completing a tough midterm, or cutting someone toxic out of your life.

Her debut mixtape “Happy Tears” will be released 11/17/17, on the same night as her release party/listening experience. The event will feature work from a number of artists, live performances, sculptors and visual artists. Follow @loftsessionsla for more details!

Ladell - Saved My Life

image

Student: Brennen Bryant
Major: Business Administration

Going by his middle name to put on amazing rap performances on and off campus, Ladell knows how to get a crowd jumping. “Saved My Life” is only one of many vibey singles, some of which have racked up to 144,000 plays on SoundCloud. 144,000 people can’t be wrong!

Nia René - Maybe

Student: Nia Warren
Major: Public Relations

Though she is a talented vocalist and has featured and starred in multiple music videos, Nia is most famously known for saying “I just wanna song write.” She wrote “Maybe” one year ago and is eager to drop her next hit single!

EaSway - All Yours

Student: Easweh Harrison
Major: Social Sciences (Psychology)

A true banger, “All Yours”, EaSway’s newest single is impossible to play without repeating at least thrice. Full of hilarious innuendo and double entendre, “All Yours” is sure to be a track you’ll play over and over again.

And there you have it - Project Playlist is complete! Get up, get down and get dancing!
