Not-as-broke November: Concerts under $30
By: Lindsey Hamilton ‘22
Concerts and LA seem to be pretty much synonymous. And, until recently, going to concerts and being broke seemed synonymous as well. But there’s a lot more happening in LA than the big names that’ll leave you with a small wallet. So I made this list: all of the concerts happening in November that I could find that are both easily accessible by metro and—the best part—all under $30. To my surprise, I found names both big and small: Alessia Cara, Julia Michaels…not bad for $30. Whether you feel adventurous and want a fairly low-risk way to check out some new music or spot a name you’ve been following, go out there and get yourself a piece of that LA music pie.
Exposing the Expo Line... a few hidden gems you probably didn’t know about
By: Lindsey Hamilton ‘22
This is a great time to be alive. No, not because of modern technology or vaccines or Bird scooters. The Expo line running from downtown to Santa Monica has connected the beach to the city since May of 2016. That makes it only the third ―the third!― year that USC students have been able to take advantage of all of the fun destinations now available to us. It’s a great time to be alive. But there’s a lot of city in between the beach and downtown. Here’s what I found…

By: Lindsey Hamilton ‘22
As bad as this sounds…I’m not gonna lie, I thought I was going to find a scandal…but didn’t! Read below to follow me through my journey- from skepticism to being a little bit proud- of learning about sustainability efforts at USC.
The Socially-Anxious Freshman’s Guide to THRIVING
By: Lindsey Hamilton ‘22
The prospect of moving to an entirely new place and rebuilding your social circle from scratch is a pretty scary one, especially if social situations tend to stress you out. With that said, making new friends and putting yourself out there is one of the most rewarding experiences that college has to offer. Check out these tips for overcoming overthinking and making freshman year one to remember!
“I Can’t Stop Checking My Phone”: A Memoir
By: Lindsey Hamilton ‘22
“I would write a real memoir, but I’m too busy documenting my life on Snapchat,” and other symptoms of phone addition (w/ helpful tips on how to STOP). Nomophobia. While it’s not quite a real word yet, it describes a very real and very scary trend: the fear of being without a mobile device.vAnd chances are, you have it. Good news? You’re not alone. Bad news? Yes, it really is that common.
“We have a long way to go, but we have hope.” — Bill Nye
Highlights from “The Changing Climate: A Conversation With Bill Nye”
By: Lindsey Hamilton ‘22
Cries of “Bill, Bill, Bill, Bill!” rang through Bovard as Bill Nye the Science Guy himself walked onto the stage of the eager auditorium last Tuesday, April 23rd, 2019. You could tell that at once, every student in the audience had been momentarily transported back in time to their elementary and middle school science classes, a carefree place where no one knew about organic chemistry or linear algebra. With videos both old and new, Mr. Nye has been a powerful force in making science education accessible to youth and adults alike, and has been a prominent voice in talks about climate change.

Talk ~literally anything but English~ to me ;)
By: Lindsey Hamilton ‘22
Fact #1: Only about 20% of the world’s population speaks English.
Fact #2: That means if you only speak English, you can’t speak to 80% of the people on Earth.
Fact #3: It’s a little tricky to treat these people as equals and learn from them if we can’t even talk to them.
Fact #4: That’s an issue.
Kundalini Yoga for Mental Health & FREE CONCERT APRIL 22nd
By: Lindsey Hamilton ‘22
Let me begin by addressing a few misconceptions. Yoga, as a practice, is neither about form-fitting Lululemon pants, nor turning yourself into a human pretzel. You don’t need a Hydroflask or even much flexibility. Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years by people of all skill levels and backgrounds with universal results: drastically increased mental and physical benefits. Kundalini yoga in particular focuses on maximizing mental health benefits through special yoga practice combined with mantras, a kind of chant and music intended to help direct and focus the mind. For a taste of these mantras, be sure to check out the Grammy Award-winning band White Sun, a group famous for their musical interpretation of yogic mantras. The FREE concert will be held on Monday, April 22nd at 6PM in Founders Park on campus. For a better idea of what this type of yoga is all about, keep on reading!
Six Steps to a Perfect Schedule
By: Lindsey Hamilton ‘22
Trying to get all of your classes — the right courses and the right time with the right teacher — can sometimes feel like a ferocious free-for-all. But with patience and a little strategy, figuring out next semester’s schedule should feel less like a mad dash and more like a fun puzzle. (Not even an exaggeration — I’m not the only one who finds planning fun…right?) Here are the top tips to finessing fall semester and taking another step towards that degree.
Nature in LA: More of an adventure finding than experiencing (but that’s fun too)
By: Lindsey Hamilton ‘22
You read that right…nature in LA! Who knew? I wasn’t being sarcastic either — half of the fun of the nature that exists in this metropolis is finding it. Because, well, it’s LA. In a city with stars seemingly everywhere but in the sky, green space is one of the last things I think of. Lucky for you all, I’ve done the intrepid (internet) exploring for you. For those brave enough to venture where the paths are dirt and there’s a little more wildlife than rats and roaches, here are the best places in the LA area to catch a breath of fresh air.

Top 10 Ways to Actually Use Top 10 Lists (& other ways to deal with information overload)
By: Lindsey Hamilton ‘22
You’ve seen them all. There are so many “top ten” lists and similar compilations of bite-sized information you could practically make an encyclopedia. Yet because lists are meant to be skimmed, depth is usually sacrificed. We have so much information easily available that we don’t know what to do with it — so oftentimes we don’t do anything. But that’s not good! We have the potential to do so much good in the world, and I believe that in approaching information from the right angle we can do just this. So in the spirit of our favorite easy-to-read format, here is a list of ways to hack the famous Top Ten List and deal with information overload (including some other fun Top Ten finds)!
