Hopefully, you’ve been keeping up with major events in the American political landscape and have understood how critical it is to exercise your right to vote. Kristy Plaza, the Manager of Communications and Media at the USC Dornsife Center for the Political Future, explains “voting is what allows people to speak up and advocate for themselves. By voting as a community, the collective voice speaks loudly to elected officials about their needs and wants. The voices of those who vote can’t and won’t be stifled.”

“Florida is too close to call.” Those were the words the Executive Editor of Annenberg’s Media Center greeted me with as I exited the television studio. “Go get some food,” he said. “It’s going to be a long night.” And a long night it was. After weeks and weeks of intense planning, I never expected how this election night would end…but everyone (besides perhaps this one guy in Georgia) already knows that part of the story. I know that just the word "politics" scares college students. It’s almost too much like the real world. Therefore, we’ll deal with it after graduation. Of course, this is coming from the girl who cried when her 18th birthday was 2 weeks after the cut off date for elections in 2012.
