Turning Twenty-Fun!
By Vanessa Wilkins ‘15
Hi everyone! So…. June 26th was my birthday! I turned 21 years old, and I had such a fun day! My incredible mother flew in all the way from Atlanta to spend the day with me! I was really excited to see her because I always miss my mom when I’m at school or away from home.
We went to In-N-Out for lunch and munched on double doubles and chocolate milkshakes. I had never heard of In-N-Out before moving to California, and I am absolutely hooked on it! I love their burgers so much!
After lunch, I went back home where there was a surprise waiting for me at my doorstep! My boyfriend sent me the prettiest bouquet of flowers in the mail, and even better, the vase was a giant martini glass! The flowers were absolutely beautiful, and I loved them so much! Thank you, Sam!
In the evening, I had my 21st birthday dinner at Bacaro L.A., an Italian tapas restaurant that is just a few blocks from USC’s campus. My mom, my Aunt Robin, and a couple of friends from school came to celebrate with me, and we enjoyed a lovely dinner. I ordered Bacaro’s famous macaroni and cheese, my favorite dish at the restaurant, as well as a few of their tapas. At the end of the meal the restaurant brought out a birthday cake that my mother had purchased, and we all ate our weight in red velvet goodness.
After dinner my mom had to fly back to Atlanta, so we said our goodbyes and she was on her way! I love my mom so much, and I am so incredibly grateful that she came to spend my 21st birthday with me! She wins the best mom award every time!
Later that night, I went downtown with some friends to go bar hopping for the very first time. I excitedly and proudly showed off my ID everywhere we went, and one bouncer was even nice enough to pose for a photo! Downtown Los Angeles is so exciting, and I am glad that I got to explore it for my 21st birthday.
My 21st birthday was truly wonderful! I received so many sweet messages and warm wishes from my friends and family around the world, and I am so thankful for all of them! I am excited to see what this new year of life will bring, and I am excited to share it with you!
