Get Through November With These Five Events

By: Ellice Ellis ‘20

We’re half-way through November, but there’s still lots to do amid all your studying and UCLA-hating… for free. Plan out the rest of your month these five amazing events and activities.

1. The Great Los Angeles Walk

Staying in town for the Thanksgiving break? Not going to the UCLA v. USC game? Put on your walking shoes and join hundreds for The Great Los Angeles Walk on Saturday, Nov. 23rd. The walk was organized in 2006 for those passionate about the city of Los Angeles and to help prove to the world that it’s fun to walk in the city.

The free urban hike starts in Arcadia and ends in DTLA nine hours and 18 miles later. No RSVPs are required, and you can hop on and off anywhere. Learn more here.

2. Democratic Debate @ USC Annenberg

Where my political junkies at? The Democratic presidential primary candidates will square off on a debate stage in Atlanta on Wednesday, 11/20. In Wallis Annenberg Hall (ANN) from 5 pm to 8 pm, the school will be screening the debate, and there is typically pizza for students.

Come early because it gets pretty packed and rowdy!

3. Cross Colours @ CAAM

Head to the California African American Museum (CAAM) to see vintage textiles, media footage, and rare ephemera. The work of the revolutionary inclusive streetwear brand Cross Colours in 1989 has been put on display in the museum right across from USC. This is great for those who love 90′s fashion and hip-hop. 4. USC Thornton Opera presents Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Support your fellow Trojans in USC Thornton’s Opera program and the USC Thornton Symphony this coming Friday (11/22) at Bing Theatre. This Visions&Voices event is adapted from Shakespeare’s play by Britten and Peter Pears, the 1960 opera is a fantasy about how myth affects the lives of mortal beings and also features modern touches of Los Angeles.

Admission is free for USC students, faculty, and staff. Tickets will be available at the door with valid ID. See you Friday with the discussion starting at 7 pm and performance at 8.

5. Sparkle DTLA

Sparkle DTLA is an urban light show located at The Bloc in the financial district. Step inside an oversized, crystalline Christmas ornament during this Downtown light installation. On November 23rd, from 6 pm to 8 pm, there’s an opportunity to write letters to Santa with Paper Source during their nightly light show.
