On Saturday, December 4th, I headed down to Goya Studios to attend the Teen Vogue Summit. This outdoor event was half block party and half convention: there were booths from LA brands and vendors, as well as panels and musical performances running on an outdoor stage. I was immediately drawn in by the event advertising a chance to network with other Teen Vogue readers, editors, and panelists as well as receive career advice from Condè Nast recruiters. The event felt full of opportunity and community.

I transferred into the School of Cinematic Arts during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in January. Fall 2021 has been my first in-person experience at taking film production classes and I had no idea what I was getting into, but in hindsight that was probably for the better. I’m currently taking a Junior level course, the notorious CTPR310.

If you are interested in acting or pursuing theatre, then you might be wondering which major is best for you to study while at USC. Between the BA (Bachelor of Arts) Theatre major, the BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) and the emphasis in Acting: it can get pretty confusing. I am a senior this year, and if my finals go well, I will officially graduate from USC this December. Sometimes, it’s fun to think about life beyond academia, but mostly, I’m just stressed out. Unlike many of my peers in the class of 2022, I haven’t secured a full-time role for after graduation. I’ve done countless interviews and written so many cover letters, but nobody has thrown me a bone yet. As I write this, I am thinking about how I have to do four interviews next week, and I would be lying if I said that I was particularly excited.

As an incoming freshman, you might’ve received an email or letter, inviting you to join a couple of programs called Freshman Science Honors (FSH), only for natural science majors, or Thematic Option (TO). One year ago, I was in the same shoes, wondering if FSH and TO were worth it, and if you’re like me, a flurry of questions probably flooded your mind on what these programs exactly were and their various benefits and drawbacks. Although there are posts online talking about these programs, I wanted to give a complete, personal take on them as I am a part of both. Quick disclaimer: I took these classes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a senior, I’m currently in full job-search mode. When I’m not doing school work, working on my internship, or writing articles for Trojans360, I’m hunting for employment. I would love a full-time job, but honestly, I’m willing to settle for yet another internship as long as I know I can support myself for a little while after I graduate. As a result, I was one of many students who attended the USC Virtual Career Fair this past Wednesday and Thursday (September 22-23). I had never been to a USC Career Fair before (virtual or in-person), so I didn’t know when to expect.

Monday, September 20th will be the start of USC Green Week: a week of sustainability-focused projects and events to engage in. Students can take this time not only to participate in the events and sign the USC Sustainability Pledge, but think about the ways we are mindful of our planet. I’ve had a lot of time to kill over the past few Zoom semesters, so I started listening to a lot of podcasts. Podcasts are perfect for long walks around campus, running errands at Target, and my all-too-dreaded weekly chores.

As an avid podcast listener, I started thinking: “Why can’t I start my own thing?”. I’d like to say that I had a noble reason for starting a podcast. Truthfully, though, I just wanted to see if I could do it…and I did. With only four episodes out, I wouldn’t consider myself an expert, but I hope talking about my own experiences can show people that you don’t have to create something groundbreaking to have a lot of fun and learn a lot!

Internships are commonly viewed as precursors to real-world jobs and great thing to have on your resume exiting college. It lets recruiters know that you have the know-how to apply the knowledge you’ve gained from your classes. Since they’re outside of the usual school curriculum, it can be intimidating and confusing on how exactly to get one, but don’t worry! It’s never too late to land one and you can do it in all sorts of ways! The USC Career Fair, taking place February 11, 2021 from 9 AM – 2 PM, is an opportunity for students to get a head start on that thing everyone worries about after graduation: jobs. From full-time, to part-time, to paid internships — there’s a little bit for everyone there. Even if you’re not looking for a job, the Career Fair could also be a great opportunity to get some networking or interview practice in!

The fair happens two times a year, once a semester, and usually in person, but obviously that can’t exactly happen this year. So, how does the event being online change things?
