Best Bookstores in Los Angeles
As an English major, the only thing I love more than reading books is buying them. Is there anything better than spending a quiet morning browsing around a bookstore, with an iced latte in hand, looking for your next read? There isn’t.
I’ve scoured far and wide—driving everywhere from Downtown to Hollywood to the beach—looking for the best bookstores in Los Angeles so you don’t have to. Below are just a few of my recommendations organized based on the experience you’re after. Visit each store one at a time or plan out your own bookstore crawl! Whether you’re a bookworm or not, each store is worth visiting to get a glimpse at a new area of LA.
Spring Breakers: Orange County Style
It’s that time of the semester where you can unwind after all those midterms and projects. If you’re in California for spring break and are tired of the Fryft zone, Santa Monica, Downtown LA, or just LA as a whole, consider making your way to LA’s sister-city, Miss Orange County!
I was born and raised in the OC moving from Westminster to Fullerton – so here are my best recommendations for traveling locally this break.

What do Tessa Thompson, America Ferrera, Matthew Lillard, Will Ferrell, and Jason Bateman have in common?
They’ve all been visiting artists at Spotlight@SDA.
Spotlight@SDA is a hidden gem that all USC students should take advantage of, whether you are studying theatre, screenwriting, communications, business, or anything else. Spotlight@SDA is a professional development opportunity provided by the School of Dramatic Arts.
6 Things No One Tells You About USC
When I started at USC, I hadn’t toured the campus or even stepped foot in the area before I accepted my admissions offer. I was about as clueless as I could be. I’m not from California, and certainly not from Southern California, so it was definitely an adjustment in every possible way. I distinctly remember buying chapstick during my first semester and my jaw actually dropping at the price. Here’s what I wish I could’ve learned from my online research about USC and student experiences before I got here.
No Car, No Money, No Problem (Easy Edition): 5 Places on the Metro E-Line
“During my time at USC I want to explore LA on the weekends,” said every incoming student ever. To make those Class of 20-something Instagram post bios, ZeeMee chats, and first day of class introductions hold some truth, you need to start exploring! Whether you’re taking a solo self care day or bonding with new friends, this “No Car, No Money, No Problem” series will help you get the most of your college experience (and USC’s U-Pass program). This pass makes all public transportation in the LA area FREE. I repeat, FREE. Transport on USC’s dime is surely something U can’t pass up.
USC’s Women’s History Month Events
Since its conception in March 1987, Women’s History Month has been a time to celebrate women—of all backgrounds and identities—and their contributions to society. WHM is also a time to empower younger generations of women—the trailblazers of the future.
LA Day Trips: Exploring Manhattan and Hermosa Beaches
When I’m looking for something to do over the weekend but have trouble deciding, a beach day is always in the cards. Recently, my friends and I were looking to go to the beach but had already been to Santa Monica multiple times before. Searching for somewhere new, we decided to take our first trip to Manhattan Beach.
Five 5-Minute Breakfast Ideas for College Students On the Move
As you snooze your seven alarms before your 9 a.m. class, throw on your clothes, grab your laptop charger, dash out the door into a lecture, and find yourself stuck in an endless cycle of eat, sleep, school repeat, let’s remember to take care of our health. It can be difficult when you’re on a time crunch to feed yourself (trust me, I went last semester only eating half a Barbell’s protein bar before my hour commute to work or my morning classes). So, here are some quick breakfast ideas that can be thrown together in under five minutes that will replenish your energy to start off your day happy and healthy.
Introducing 3/5 Comedy — And Why We Need It
If you’re looking for a good laugh, USC’s got you covered. Our institution’s ever-expanding comedy scene is one of the standout parts of the university, which hosts a plethora of sketch comedy, improv, and stand-up groups. Among these is the brand-new 3/5 Comedy, founded by Black students as an effort to uplift and promote underrepresented voices in comedy circles.

Having Tourette’s Syndrome in College
When I started at USC, I anticipated stressing over homework, homesickness, and an adjustment period to my newfound independence. I didn’t anticipate, but soon learned, that new environments and major life changes are known to aggravate Tourette’s Syndrome.
Ranking The Journalism Classes I’ve Taken at Annenberg
Throughout my four years as a journalism major at Annenberg, I have taken a plethora of journalism courses, some that I have enjoyed and others that I hated. My experience in classes at Annenberg has been a rollercoaster. While some classes have served me well and taught me a lot about the field of journalism, others have felt repetitive and lacking a critical structure. To help you navigate classes and validate your confusion for some prerequisites, I have reviewed and ranked all of the journalism courses I have taken at Annenberg!
