5 DiSCounts for USC Students
By Maddie Walsh ‘20
If you’re balling on that #BrokeCollegeStudent budget, then activities like seeing a movie at LA Live or spending the day at Six Flags can be very cost prohibitive. Fortunately, USC gets it, and the university has created a magical place where you can go and get discounts just for being a Trojan! This wonderland is called the USC Ticket Office. Tucked away in the Student Union building (1st Floor, by the pharmacy), the USC Ticket Office is the place to go if you’re looking to save a few bucks on movie tickets, amusement park passes, and gift card packages. Keep reading to learn about the top 5 discounts available!
Six Flags Magic Mountain: Cost: $55 Usually $85
If you are a bit of an adrenaline junkie like myself, then you should definitely take advantage of this discount. A trip to Six Flags means access to some crazy roller coasters. You can take the 95 foot drop with the Apocalypse, fall 152 feet while strapped into a harness on the Devil Dive, or live out your super hero dreams on the Batman. The park is about an hour away from campus (around a $35 uber) making it the perfect day trip for you and your friends.
Aquarium of the Pacific: Cost: $21 Usually $30
This aquarium has something for everyone. If you love the cute and cuddly, then you’ll be a fan of the sea otter habitat where adorable southern sea otters float around. If you’re looking to see some predators, then you can head over to Shark Lagoon and stare down some zebra and whitetip reef sharks. There is even a shark and ray touch pool so you can pet a few of the tamer species. The aquarium is less than an hour away and only a $15-20 uber from campus.
San Diego Zoo: Cost: $49 Usually $54
This attraction is more than an uber away from campus, but if you happen to be heading to San Diego for a quick getaway, then buy your ticket to the zoo at USC and save a few dollars! The San Diego Zoo is definitely worth adding to your trip’s itinerary as it was voted the #1 zoo in the world.
Los Angeles Zoo: Cost: $18 Usually $21
If you still want to see some animals but don’t want to go all the way to San Diego, then the LA Zoo is a great alternative. Located at the north end of Griffith Park, the zoo is home to a wide variety of species, including orangutans, jaguars, and giraffes. You can also explore the botanical gardens– perfect spot for a picnic!
Regal Cinemas Movie Tickets: Cost: $9 Usually $17-18
This is the most helpful discount that the ticket office offers. LA live is a really fun place to see movies and it’s so close to campus, but that $17 movie ticket is pretty steep. With the regal cinema voucher, all you have to do is pay $9 at the ticket office and then pick out your seat at the theater’s ticket window. The tickets should work for any movie any time at any Regal Cinemas location. Similar discounts are available for AMC and Laemmle theaters. Just remember that the ticket office is only open 9-5pm M-F, so you should pick the tickets up early if you plan to see a movie over the weekend.
