1.Hands on Experience

If you’re planning on working in the field of Journalism, Public relations, or Communications then the Annenberg Media Center is where you want to be. First, you don’t need to be an Annenberg student to sign-up. As a volunteer you are able to select the amount of hours you would like to work and the days you are available. Whether you’re working with the Annenberg Radio, Annenberg TV News, or the online digital site Annenberg Media, you will be assigned tasks that provide you with valuable hands on experience.

2.Meet Talented People

When I first joined Annenberg Media, I was amazed by all of the talented individuals that I met. From grad students to undergraduates, each individual is a team member that are  all working together.

3.Pump Your Portfolio

If you’re looking to add experience to your portfolio then this would be the place to do it.Simply adding “Staff Writer,” “Video Editor,” or “Music Editor,” to your portfolio can make an impression on employers and internships. It shows you have experience and commitment.

4.Cover Interesting Events

Cover events that interest you. Some of my favorite events  include music festivals, LA Fashion Week, interviews with artists. One of my most memorable interviews with  indie band The Drums. The filmed interview was a success reading over 5,000+ views on Youtube. Another interview I covered was with the artist Vance Joy, best known for his hit single, “Riptide.”

5.Learn New Skills

Annenberg gives you the opportunity to expand your horizons and acquire new skills. For example, learn how to edit video with Adobe Premier. Or you can learn how to create graphics for Broadcast Television with Adobe Photoshop. The possibilities are endless, Annenberg is playground to learn and hone down valuable skills.

6.Make Lasting Friendships

Not only is it a place to learn, but it’s also a great place to meet like minded creatives. Plus, there’s so much to learn from one another whether if it’s learning how to record sound for an interview or how to schedule posts on hootsuite for social media.
