My Favorite Black Female Artists of the Past Year

By: Justin Negash ‘22

The past two years in music have been devoid of “the usuals”. Without an album from the bigs like Frank Ocean, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna, it’s created a hole in the music industry. Fortunately, the next generation of artists and producers stepped up to fill the void, and a majority of them were Black women. If 2019 was the rise of this generation, then 2020 was their crowning coronation. The year’s music scene was undeniably led by bonafide popstars Doja Cat, Meg The Stallion, and Lizzo. Why You Should Check Out Trojan Talent

By: Jordan Bucknor ‘22

Short answer? To watch some films, listen to music, and check out art. Long answer? I was pretty shocked when I checked out Trojan Talent for the first time for the sheer fact that there was just so much stuff! To top it off, everything on the site is phenomenal! This platform is a great way to explore the creations of your fellow students and honestly just keep yourself entertained. There’s too much content to tackle it all in one, or even two or three sittings — but even if it’s just a single short film or song, you should definitely check it out! After exploring all that Trojan Talent has to offer, you may even want to submit something yourself!

By: Lauren Brose ‘15

Chris Felner—stage name “Felly”— doesn’t enjoy school. The 20-year-old from Trumbull, Connecticut, admits he’s never been totally captivated in his classes because he feels it hinders his ability to create. The technicalities with pitch, tone, specific chords and notes being played isn’t a calculated process for Chris. Instead, he feels the music and goes what what makes sense to him. That’s what’s worked for him since he started to write music at the fleeting age of 14.

The Early Bird May Get the Worm but Nighthawks Are More Intelligent and Creative

By: Lauren Brose ‘15

It’s 1:29 AM on a Monday night and I am wide awake. While I can simply turn off my lights and sleep, I have zero desire to do so. In some form, being a night hawk (I prefer “night hawk” over “night owl” because let’s face it hawks are awesome) has never been a choice of mine. For as long as I can remember, I thrived best after dark…
