10 Clubs Anyone Can Still Join Virtually

By: Jordan Bucknor ‘22

Just because we’re online, doesn’t mean we can’t connect — especially in terms of clubs and other activities. The online semester did throw a wrench in things, but a lot of organizations still managed to make it work! Regardless of your major or minor, these are activities that anyone can participate in!

For aspiring songwriters…

Songwriters’ Forum (Monday, 8PM to 10PM PDT)

Despite USC’s thriving creative community, there is a lack of options for musicians wishing to collaborate while expanding on their skills. Therefore, Songwriters’ Forum will provide a platform for songwriters, producers, and performers to collaborate on original music. We hope to unite the creative talent at USC and form a music community.

For those who enjoy board or card games…

Game Night (Friday, 8PM to 10PM PDT)

Join us for Game Night and make some new friends while playing all of your favorite games. We will have everything from “Clue” to “Cards Against Humanity” and many more!

For those interested in advocacy…

Student Coalition Against Labor Exploitation at USC (Fridays, 1PM PDT)

SCALE stands for the Student Coalition Against Labor Exploitation. We strive to empower students and the USC community, through activism and action, to promote fair and just workplaces on campus, and around the globe. We’ve been active on USC’s campus since 1997.

For those wanting to geek out over pop culture…

Queer Fandom Fanatics (Wednesday, 4PM  to 5:30PM PDT)

Queer Fandom Fanatics is a weekly space for folks to geek out and talk about all things pop culture (tv, movies, comics, video games, fandom, etc) through a queer, intersectional lens.

For those who enjoy yoga…

Yoga at Home (Wednesday, 4:30PM to 5:30PM PDT)

Let’s face it, for the foreseeable future we’re home and it’s time to make the best of it. No more excuses that you’ll get moving once this is over- time to get moving now.  The “Yoga At Home” series is a moderate, all levels class series designed for those who want to start yoga, get back to yoga, or just keep up some basic mobility, flexibility and agility. These classes take into consideration that we all have limited space, time and attention span and aim to relieve stress, increase vitality and create a safe space to move and be still, to breathe and let go.

For those who want to get back into reading…

Queer Book Club (Friday, 3PM to 4PM PDT)

Come join our queer virtual book club! We will be hanging out through both Zoom meetings and chat rooms, making new friends, and finding exciting books to read in the process! If interested, please sign up for our mailing list here, and join our Facebook group for more information.

For those looking to connect through diverse faith…

USC Interfaith Council (Monday, 5PM PDT)

USC has more student religious groups than any other university in the United States, and the Interfaith Council includes students representing the diversity of faiths across campus. All USC students are invited to attend any or all meetings of the Interfaith Council, to learn and share about their faith traditions from each other.

For those who either enjoy screenwriting or want to get into it…

Film and Television Writer’s of USC (Thursdays, 7PM PDT)

Founded and run by Mary Bronaugh, Film and Television Writers of USC is a USC School of Cinematic Arts Student Organization dedicated to creating television writers room environments, organizing and hosting panels with industry professionals, and producing student-made film and television work by recruiting and training students for sets. It is the largest SCA Student Organization, with over 300 members across all classes and majors, working on over a dozen active sets and projects in development and production during the school year.

For those who love history…

Clio USC (Thursday, 6PM PDT)

CLIO is the student association of the USC History Department. Clio is open to students of all majors and disciplines. It is an event-oriented club dedicated to stimulating, sustaining, and promoting interest in history through participation in speaker events and excursions around Los Angeles that highlight members’ diverse areas of interest…Such programs have aspired to enrich the undergraduate experience through activities that not only enhance enthusiasm for history but also foster a closer connection between the faculty and student body. The goal is to generate a community of history scholars at USC and we’d love to have you involved! We have a lot in store, so join today!

For those looking to improve their language skills…

English Corner (Thursday, 8PM PDT)

All levels of English speaking skills are welcome!  Join us every Thursday as we discuss topics that are relevant to the lives of international students.  Our goal is to create a safe place to have fun while practicing English!

Just because this semester is virtual doesn’t mean you can’t still participate in things!  Check out the clubs featured in this post from last semester and try to see which ones are still active — USC ASL’s Club is! Organizations are still up and at ‘em, so check them out!
