1.Get Involved

First things first, the transition from high school to a university can be difficult. Afterall it’s a new environment, new people, unfamiliar buildings, and much more. My best advice is to get involved.

Involvement Fair

Stay tuned at the beginning of each semester for the Involvement Fair. This is a great way to discover the variety of clubs and programs on campus. Trust me when I say there is something for everyone from hacking club to environmentally conscious groups.

Fun Fact: I found one of my favorite clubs and programs through the involvement fair.

SC Outfitters

If you enjoy being outdoors then I definitely recommend checking out SC Outfitters. It’s basically an outdoor adventure group that plans amazing outdoor activities from backpacking in Hawaii to rock climbing lessons on the coast.

Annenberg Media Center

Another favorite program of mine is volunteering for the Annenberg Media Center. This is especially great if you’re interested in digital media. By volunteering you are able to get hands on experience in editing videos, photography, social media and so much more! My favorite experience was being able to interview and photograph some of my favorite musicians.

So I guess what I’m saying is get out there and get involved. It’s a great way to get acclimated to a new school and to meet amazing and talented individuals.

2.Rock Out at an On-Campus Festivals

Springfest-

Spring Fest is like a mini on-campus Coachella with photo booth, food trucks, a beer garden and more. Similar to conquest, they are also known for bringing well-known musicians.

Conquest-

This is the festival that takes places before the big game day with UCLA. It’s powered with school spirit with performances from USC dance clubs and acapella groups. However, they also bring out well-known musicians.

Fem Fest-

Hosted by the Women’s Student Assembly, Fem Fest is a festival with a cause. Plus, you can experience intimate performances by USC’s very own talent.

KXSC Fest-

If you’re more into indie rock and upcoming artists then this is the festival for you. In addition to new music, they have a unique booths like the digital detox or the yoga area.

3.Intern Somewhere You Love

College is all about gaining valuable education and fueling your passion. A great way to explore your major is to intern somewhere you see yourself in the future. I’ve had many friends intern at amazing places like CBS News or Engineering for Disneyland.

Plus USC provides a plethora of resources to connect you with the right internship. One of these is the Student Jobs tab under MyUSC. Once there you will find a section that constantly updates students with internship opportunities.

So give it a shot and explore internship possibilities. You will be amazed at the insight you will gain!

4.Attend a Tailgate

This is definitely on your must-do list. It’s simply a great experience overall where you get to experience the school spirit. My favorite part is the school band’s performance. Plus, it’s a great way to mingle and meet other students.

5.Attend A Game

So as you may already know, football is dear to USC students and fans alike. To be honest I’m not the biggest sports fan but when I attended my first football game I was all for it. It goes hand in hand with the tailgate, the school spirit is contagious and will have you jumping up and down cheering for our team.

But of course the games don’t stop there, USC has talented athletes across all sports teams like: basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, rowing, beach volleyball, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball and waterpolo.

6.Study Abroad

I don’t even know where to begin with this one. Living in a foreign country is an experience of a lifetime. It allows you to immerse yourself in a new culture and experience life from a different perspective. Simply think of somewhere you imagine yourself living or would love to experience and more certain than not USC has a study abroad program for it.

To find more information about study abroad programs I recommend asking your counselor since each school provides a different assortment of programs.

Fun Fact: If you study abroad in Europe, tickets to travel between countries are less expensive. So if you’d love a grand European tour then I recommend checking out flights and trains in advance after selecting your study abroad program to ensure you get the best travel deals.
