24th Annual Festival of Books at USC

By: Alexis M Peters ‘20

ATTENTION BOOK LOVERS EVERYWHERE: It’s that time of the year again! The time when the sun is hot and the books are hotter! You guessed it! It’s the 24th annual LA Times Festival of Books!

You may have wondered what all those white tents popping up across campus were for. Well, everyone is gearing up for what’s sure to be an amazing fun-filled literary weekend. The LA Times Festival of Books is huge 2-day extravaganza; it’s the world’s largest literary festival, all right on USC’s campus! There will be panels featuring a plethora of authors and writers, book signings, pop up book shops, musical performances, and the celebration of all things bookish!

This year’s lineup promises to be stunning with appearances from Chelsea Clinton (Don’t Let Them Disappear), self-help writer Jen Sincero (You Are a Badass Everyday), and bestselling young adult author Leigh Bardugo (Six of Crows)! And you won’t want to miss the USC marching band kicking off the event at 10 AM on Saturday, or performances from the SoCal VoCals, or the Trojan Men!

This sounds too good to be true, you say. A whole bookish festival right on USC’s campus? How much does it cost? Absolutely free, friends. That’s right: The tents and events are free to enjoy, but you might want to have some cash in your pocket in case a book catches your eye.

So be sure to take a look at this year’s festival lineup before this weekend. (Check it out here.) While all events and panels are free, some with limited space require tickets which are available either by reservation online with a $2 processing fee, or pick up free the day of the event.

Don’t miss the Festival this weekend April 13th and 14th!
