A Guide on Throwing the Best Graduation Party Ever
By Samantha Romero ‘16
Choose a Theme
First things first, choose a theme that suits your preferred style. Whether it’s a black and white affair or a beach bash extravaganza. This first step will allow you to funnel your options for the following steps.
Here is a list of theme ideas in case you are in need for some inspiration:
- Sail Away Graduation
- Smart Cookie Graduation
- Black and White Graduation Party
- Western Themed Graduation
- Vintage Graduation Party
- Glam Graduation Party
- Retro Graduation Party
- Great Gatsby Themed
Pick Out a Venue
After choosing a themes, pick a venue that will best suit your choice. If you prefer the city vibe then I recommend choosing a rooftop or a warehouse to celebrate your big day.
Check these photos for major venue inspiration:
Apex Studio - A photo studio that can also be rented out for events. It’s the perfect venue for that industrial city vibe.
Loft Seven Penthouse - This event space definitely fits a modern aesthetic with spectacular views of Downtown Los Angeles.
Hutchinson Cocktails & Grill - For a more classic and Great Gatsby kind of vibe check out this dazzling space in Los Angeles.
A practical alternative includes using a backyard or a house party. This is a great budget saving alternative that also allows you to spend more on other party features.
Invite Family and Friends
Paper invites can get tedious and become time-consuming so instead try an e-invite. It’s better than paper and more formal than a mere text invite. Certain e-invitations also let you keep track of who will and will not be able to attend the event. Just make sure you give your guests a final date to confirm so you can prepare ahead of time.
Here is a list of e-invitation sites to check out:
Quick tip: If there is a certain dress code, be sure to include it in your invitation.
Food Food Food
Food is key! Whether you opt for a catered option or a food truck, consider your options.
Some really cool options include catering by Chipotle, In-N-Out or a simple taco stand. These are all sure to satisfy your guests appetites.
Dessert
Don’t forget about the desserts. There are so many options to choose from whether it’s cake pops, cupcakes, cookies, etc.
Photobooth vs. Photographer
You will certainly want to capture this special day, so consider renting a photobooth or hiring a photographer to capture the fun times.
With a photo booth, attendees will have a photostrip to take with them as a party favor. You can even get a little crafty and either make or purchase props.
In contrast, a photographer can also capture the festivities at best candid moments at the events. Essentially both are great so if you can’t decide between the two, why not consider using both services.
Turn Up the Music
Don’t forget to book a DJ to play all the beats This will get your party vibing and ensuring everyone has an amazing time while they’re dancing the night away.
A practical alternative if you’re unable to book a DJ, is to create a playlist with your favorite jams to play throughout the event. Just don’t forget about the speakers!
Consider A Live Band
Another option in addition to a DJ, is hiring a live band. Look for upcoming artists that you can showcase at your special event. Who know, what if you could say the next music legends played at your graduation? That would be epic!
This Is Your Day
Although, you should keep all these tips in mind, the most important thing to remember is that this is your day and what matters most is that you celebrate it with the people you love.
