5 Nostalgic #JustFreshmanThings
By Judy Lee ‘17
To be quite honest, I was a very lame freshman. But even looking back, I wish I could relive some of the moments from those days. When it comes down to it, we may all have been pretty derpy kids, but we were carefree kids nonetheless. Here’s some things I miss:
1. Living Close To Everyone
I’d say this is the main one. Something about mushing hundreds of late-teens together in a building makes for a lot of impromptu adventures. This meant your friends were literally a hall away, and hanging out was as easy as that–no planning necessary. Also, I realize now how much I took living on campus for granted (those in-between class naps tho).
2. The Lanyard
Yeah, I rocked the lanyard. I’m not even embarrassed about it. In fact, I wish it were still socially acceptable for me to wear my keys around my neck because it’s actually a really convenient way to know you won’t get locked out because you forgot them somewhere random.
3. Unlimited Cafeteria Food
So maybe this is the rose-colored glasses talking, but even if the food at EVK wasn’t the best, it was still unlimited. Cereal at 9pm? Why not. 19 slices of pizza after a game? Absolutely. Sneaking fruit out to take the class? Uh–not me…
4. Everyone Was Down
Kind of refers to the first point: everyone always seemed more down to do things. Maybe it was because classes hadn’t made us jaded quite yet and we still had the very strong sense of freshman FOMO driving us. Even still, midnight adventures were never uncommon.
5. Being Surprised At Everything
Might have also just been me, but I hadn’t really been to a big concert before USC. Remembering DJ R3hab at my Welcome Back concert still excites me to this day. Even discovering the other side of the Roski school felt like an amazing experience. Looking at everything with fresh (pun totally intended) eyes created a sense of wonder I wish I could feel just once more.
