Creative Graduation Cap Inspiration #USCgrad

By Samantha Romero ‘16

After arduous years of all-nighters and countless cups of coffee later, it’s finally here! Here are some creative cap ideas to give your graduation day an extra sizzle.

The Hogwarts Cap

So there are a lot of options for this one, here are two of my favorites.

For this first design you will need some glitter paper both gold and brown. The gold one will serve as the background and the brown one will be used for the letter cutouts. I recommend outlining the paper and then cutting it out so you have a guideline. I’m sure you can find a little trinket at the arts and craft store to match the key. As for the glasses, I would try using the same glitter paper to cut out the glasses.

  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Brown Glitter Paper
  • Gold Glitter Paper
  • Scissors
  • Pen

For this second design you will need a few more materials but it’s nothing impossible. Once again you will use a gold glitter paper as the background then you can use brown glitter paper or plain for the Hogwarts letter cut outs and the little lightning bolt. Then you will also need red glitter paper to make the “I’d rather be at” portion. If you look closely you can also see that they outlined their hat with dark red or ruby colored rhinestones. As for the patch I found a similar one on Etsy here. You can also check out Target and Ebay for other options simply type in “Hogwarts Patch,” onto Google to begin your search.

The Bedazzled Cap

This is for the student that loves to shine. Simply visit your local arts and craft store to pick up a hot glue gun and plastic rhinestones and you are good to go. The next step is to choose a design or layout. Whether you want to fill every inch with rhinestones or spell out your name or graduation year, it’s totally up to you. You can even add an extra touch with a ribbon of your choice.

The Designer Inspired Cap

This is for the student fashionista whose outfits are always on point and always keeps up to date with the latest trends. This design requires a bit more effort. You’re going to need to purchase gold glitter paper. Then you will want to make some two “C” cut outs from black felt material. Afterwards simply glue the paper and “C” cutouts and voila! Walk down that aisle like the runway.

These caps are for the students that are always at the premiere of every Superhero movie. Or if you’re simply a fan. It seems like a lot of work is necessary but don’t worry we’re going to break it down.

Batman Cap:

You will be using the black glitter paper as the background. You will be cutting an oval shape from the yellow foam paper. Then you will outline the bat logo on the black glitter paper and cut it out. Then you can use the rhinestones to include your graduation year. The ribbons are an extra touch simply measure your ribbon length and glue them on (Add an extra touch with a rhinestone). Don’t forget to glue the black cloth from underneath the cap to make a cape-like effect.

Superman Cap:

For this one you will be using blue felt or foam as the background. Then use red foam to make a cut out of the superman logo then simply print out the actual logo and glue it on top. Lastly, add your red cape by glueing it underneath the cap.

The Drake Inspired Cap

If you’re reading this it’s not to late to recreate a Drake inspired cap. This may very well be one of the least difficult caps to achieve. Simply go onto the site http://www.ifyouretypingthisitstoolate.com/?say= and type in the words below to recreate the same font. Then simply print out the praise hands and glue these down onto a white foam background.
