Do You Like Your Classes? Decide Now!

By Kelly Kinas ‘17

If you want to change any of your classes, you better do it fast. Any class not what you expected? Any professor you can’t handle? Still need to take the maximum number of units to graduate on time? Today is a very important day for you.

Today is the last day to add a class on Web Registration. If you’re not feeling a class but still need to take 16 to 18 units, you need to change your class TODAY.

Thanks to Undergraduate Student Government, the drop deadline has been extended. So you can drop a class next week but you can’t add another class to fill the void in units.

Here are some ways to decide whether a class is worth staying:

1. CLASS IMPORTANCE:

This class you’re thinking about dropping, is it a requirement for your major? Are there are other times available? Is it only available in the fall? These are important questions to know the answer to before you drop a class today. You need to have another class in mind before you drop. Talk to your Academic Advisor and figure out how important this specific class is to your course plan.

2. HOW MUCH YOU LIKE THE CLASS:

This shouldn’t really be as important to whether you’re dropping a class or not. Classes can change over the semester. Just because the first two classes were boring doesn’t mean you need to get another class. You should like your classes but you need to putting in the effort as well. Be like Hermoine. Read the assigned readings. Participate in class. You will like the class more if you’re more involved and actually know what’s going on.

As said before, you can still drop a class after today. You just won’t be able to add another class to take the units. You may be left with taking 12 units this semester. That sounds like a dream but make sure that doesn’t effect your graduation date. You don’t want to become this guy:

3. DO YOU HAVE TIME FOR LUNCH:

It is important to stay hydrated and to eat throughout the day. If you have room in your schedule to move on class later so you can have a 50 minutes lunch break, you should do that. It’s tough going from class to class to class with no break. Maybe make some time for yourself and find a comfy couch on campus and chill for a couple minutes, thanks to your newly edited schedule.

4. DO YOU HAVE TOO MUCH ON YOUR PLATE:

If you’re already stressing out about all your classes, maybe change the class. Add a class that will still fufill the requirement but won’t make you want to skip every class. If you have room in your course plan to take a really heavy lab next semester and you already have too much going on, you can change your schedule BUT ONLY TODAY. AFTER THAT, YOU CANNOT ADD ANY MORE CLASSES. ONLY DROP. HOW MANY MORE TIMES CAN I SAY IT??

Well, I won’t keep screaming at you. But make sure to add your class today before you can no longer!! I REPEAT: YOU CAN ONLY DROP AFTER TODAY.

Think of it this way:

Today: Move it AND/OR Lose it

Tomorrow: LOSE IT

You’re welcome.

Look over your class schedule and figure out what you want to do.

Fight on!
