Thanksgiving is a few days away, so let’s take a moment to look back at all the things we can be thankful for this semester…
Our Athletics
So far, this has been a very successful season for USC athletes.
Some recent football victories include:

The Olympics
44 athletes from all over the world represented USC at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio this past summer and brought back multiple victories:
Gold: Katinka Hosszu (Hungary) - 400m IM, 100m Back, 200m IM; Dalilah Muhammad (USA) - 400m IH; Kami Craig (USA) - Women’s water polo; Kaleigh Gilchrist (USA) - Women’s water polo; Allyson Felix (USA) - 4x100m, 4x400m; DeMar DeRozan (USA) - Men’s basketball
Silver: Amanda Weir (USA) - 4x100m Freestyle relay; Katinka Hosszu (Hungary) - 200m Back; Allyson Felix (USA) - 400m; Nia Ali (USA) - 100m HH; Andre De Grasse (Canada) - 200m

Our Academics
-This year, USC was ranked #15 by the Wall Street Journal.
-New academic programs were offered such as a minor in Human Security and Geospatial Intelligence, a major in Central European Studies, and a major in Journalism.
Our Campus
Over the summer, new buildings and other additions were added to the campus.
Buildings: Gloria Kaufman International Dance Center, Fertitta Hall
Housing renovations/upgrades: Parkside Apartments, Marks Tower, Pardee Tower, Fluor Tower

USC Village (scheduled to open Fall 2017): USC Village will offer residential housing, retail spaces, and food venues.
USC Michelson Center for Convergent Bioscience (scheduled for completion in 2017): This building will be the largest building on UPC

It Ends Here - An event to raise awareness about sexual assault on college campuses
International Education Week - A week of events/activities celebrating international education and international exchanges
Student Entrepreneurs - USC students use their creative and innovative minds to solve problems and start their own companies.

Somos Guerras: Feminism, Hip Hop, and Guatemala with Rebeca Lane (Visions and Voices) - A concert and conversation featuring Rebeca Lane and her artivism
Forbidden Questions about Islam (Visions and Voices) - Irshad Manji, author of “The Trouble with Islam Today”, came to speak at USC about creating dialogues and conversations around Islam
USC Own It - A women’s leadership summit that brought successful women from multiple fields to discuss the leadership gap, offer advice and guidance, and inspire the audience.
Feminist Media Festival: The first annual festival by USC WCA (Women of Cinematic Arts)
Rupi Kaur, NYT best-selling author of Milk and Honey came to talk about her book
USC Comedy Festival (Visions and Voices): Trojans 360 blogger Grace Carballo attended the Women in Comedy panel and discussed what she learned.
Post-election open discussions and conversations: After the emotional presidential election, many groups on campus offered resources and events to support those in the community and discuss what happens next.

Trojan Family Weekend - Families came to campus to visit their kids for Trojan Family Weekend. Trojans 360 Blogger Kelly Kinas gave us tips on how to trick them into thinking that we have our lives together.

Our Country
Veterans
Thank you for serving our country.
Just a few weeks ago USC held Veterans Appreciation Week to give recognition to them and show all the veteran resources available.
To highlight a few notable measures that passed in November:
Prop 51 - $9 billion in bonds for education and schools
Prop 54 - Requires that every bill be published in print and online at least 72 hours before each house of the legislature can vote on it
Prop 63 - Background checks for ammunition purchases
Prop 64 - Legalization of marijuana
Prop 67 - Prohibition on plastic single-use carryout bags
