Did you miss this year’s Globefest? Here’s a recap of the event.

Every year, the International Students Assembly (ISA) holds Globefest, an event filled with performances, activities, and foods that celebrate diversity and international cultures.

Multiple students and student groups had the opportunity to perform for the crowd. Some of the performances in year’s line up included USC Vietnamese Traditional Dance, Brandon Le (Trojans 360′s very own video blogger!), JEJ, Cheryl K, Traditional Chinese Dance at USC, Daniela Silva, Trogons A Capella, and USC Haneulsori. Many of these acts were featured at ISA’s iVoice 2016 event last semester. All of the performances were impressive, and I’d like to give a shout out to the Trogons and Brandon who sang in Chinese!

There were also a lot of different activities at Globefest - face painting, photo booth, sand art, caricatures, flower crowns (or bracelets), henna, and a Megawire game. I went to face painting, the photo booth, Megawire, and flower bracelets/crowns. Even though some of the activities didn’t seem to directly connect to a particular culture or country, it did allow me to meet people from different places all over the world.

The animals at Globefest were popular with the crowd, especially the puppies. If you missed playing with the puppies this time (or want to spend more time with them in the future), you can find dogs on campus every week. On Thursdays, therapy dogs visit campus, and Monday-Thursday, Beau the Wellness dog holds “out-of-office” hours (Mon/Wed - 10 am - 12 pm, Tue/Thu 1 - 3 pm).

People also played with other animals such as a llama, a small pony, ducks, and bunnies. It was surprising to see such a diverse range of animals in one place. Traveler made an appearance for a few hours, and people were able to pet him and pose for a photo.

After finishing an activity, attendees received a stamp on a sheet that could be exchanged for food and/or prize tickets. Boba was a popular choice, but Takoyaki, fish & chips, and cotton candy also attracted a lot of attention.

Overall, I was impressed with this year’s Globefest. I went last year, and although this year’s event was set up a bit differently, it still achieved the goal of bringing people from different countries and ages together to celebrate international cultures.
