March 2022: Must See LA Concerts

By: Lanie Brice ‘24

Now that it’s spring, touring season is back in full force, and there are so many shows coming to the LA area! While there are plenty of huge stars making their way here, I want to let you in on some hidden gem artists playing fantastic but lesser known venues. Here’s a sampling of shows I’m super excited about at some of my favorite venues in the city, from the El Rey to the Roxy this March. And, if you’re looking for something close to home, there’s even a local USC show on the list!

Fletcher

w/ Amelia Moore and G Flip

March 3, 2022 @ The Fonda Theater in Hollywood

Last night, Fletcher played the first of her two night run at the Fonda Theater. I was lucky enough to be there for night one, and she put on a fantastic, dynamic, and thoroughly entertaining show. During the Q&A and Soundcheck for VIPs before the show, she was extremely genuine and thoughtful. From the elaborate city street set, to her witty humor, to the amazing music and unchoreographed dancing, this show is not to be missed if you loved when “Undrunk” hit the radio back in 2019.

If you want to see a preview before picking up the tickets, here’s my vlog from last night’s show!

Gracie Abrams

w/ Alix Page

March 4 &5 @ The El Rey in the Miracle Mile

Gracie Abrams is back for two shows at the El Rey this upcoming Friday and Saturday, and popular USC music student, Alix Paige, is opening up the show. Gracie and Alix both make music that would appeal to fans of Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift, or Holly Humberstone. Now playing music from her new project, This Is What It Feels Like, Gracie has quickly returned to LA after playing a sold out night at the Roxy last October.

Gracie is an incredibly talented, emotional performer, but where she shines brightest is in her immense amount of connection with the crowd. Fans often bring gifts to her shows, and by the end of each song, she has to set down armfuls of teddy bears, letters, bracelets, and other trinkets.

March 5 @ 1324 W 30th St

If you’re looking for a show close to home, you’ve probably seen one of USC music industry student Amanda Sanchez’s fliers posted around campus for her show this Saturday featuring a long line-up of local LA artists. Beyond just the music, if you’re looking for more of an all-encompassing experience, the event is going to feature flash tatts from @icedwines, Solesito jewelry, Bebop n Blues, Psychedelic Troll virgin drinks, and Bloom Boutique to offer shopping and other activities as well.

This show is being thrown in honor of Amanda’s 20th birthday, and part of the proceeds are going to PH Aware. Tickets are $8 online, but you are encouraged to make a larger donation if you can.

Louis Tomlinson

w/ Sun Room

March 12 & 13 @ YouTube Theater in Inglewood

Feeling nostalgic for your pre-teen days? Former One Direction member Louis Tomlinson is touring his solo debut album, Walls, and is stopping in LA for two nights on March 12 and 13th. Since it’s the weekend that Spring Break kicks off, if you’re not leaving town, this could be a great start to your vacation.

Maude Latour

w/ Jensen McRae

March 15 @ The Roxy in West Hollywood

As a college student at Columbia University, Maude has juggled a double life over the last four years as her music career started to take off. Her music first got a lift when “One More Weekend” was released in 2020. Back on a quick tour, she’s stopping in LA on the heels of her latest song release, “Headphones,” where she sings about staying true to her dreams and coming into her own. Jensen McRae, an alum of the USC Popular Music program, will be opening for Maude, and if you haven’t heard her Phoebe Bridgers adjacent track “Immune” yet, you’re missing out

Claire Rozinkranz

w/ Aidan Bissett

March 16 &17 @ The Roxy in West Hollywood

“Backyard Boy” took over TikTok in the early days of the pandemic, and now Claire finally has the chance to play her songs live. The Roxy is such a lovely, intimate venue, and it’s a great place to catch up and coming artists who are on their way to breaking through.

Baby Queen

March 21 @ School Night in Hollywood 21+

Baby Queen is a British pop-punk leaning artist who first came onto my radar in early 2021 with the release of her song “These Drugs.” Writing searingly real commentaries on both her own life and the world around her, Baby Queen has a sharp tongue and a strong stage presence. For those of you lucky enough to be over 21, this is an amazing chance to see a budding artist in a small room before she blows up, as she’s set to tour Europe with Olivia Rodrigo this summer.

Dodie

w/ Lizzy McAlpine

March 24 and 25 @ The Ace Hotel in Downtown

Once famous YouTuber and now singer-songwriter, Dodie, is back in the US for a brand new tour that is stopping through the Ace Hotel at the end of March. Coming with her is standout songwriter and artist Lizzy McAlpine. Getting ready to release a brand new album in April, Lizzy is promoting her latest singles on the road. While she’s played many of her opening sets acoustic, expect a full band when she takes the stage in Los Angeles for two nights.

Maisie Peters

w/ Jonah Kagen

March 31 & April 1 @The El Rey in the Miracle Mile

To end March and usher in April, Maisie Peters is playing two nights at the El Rey on Thursday March 31st and Friday April 1st. Maisie has been a favorite artist of mine since I found her original EP a couple years ago. She’s since released a second EP and a debut album, You Signed Up For This. If you like Taylor Swift or Gracie Abrams, you’ll love Maisie’s blend of thoughtful lyrics and pop sensibilities, as well as her bubbly energy.
