(Sporty) Spice Up Your Life!
By Grace Carballo ‘17
If you have extra room in your schedule, want to add a 1 or 2 unit course, and/or want to learn a new skill and stay fit in the process, look no further than the PHED department! There are 23 Physical Education courses being offered this Fall 2016, so you’re sure to find one that fits amidst your other courses, no matter how busy you may be.
The positive effects of exercise on the brain have been well proven by a number of studies, so taking a physical education course is probably one of the smartest thing you could do for your academic career, especially if you realistically don’t envision yourself making time for exercise otherwise.
According to the PHED website, “Courses are designed to introduce students to various aspects of health and physical education principles. With this exposure, knowledge, and skill, students are better equipped to make choices regarding a healthy and active lifestyle.”
Whether you’re a novice or looking to fine-tune your abilities, you will improve your skills and the instructors will tailor the class to the students and their needs. Said instructors have a strong background and expertise in their particular field.
The PHED site also reiterates that studies have repeatedly shown the significance of exercise and regular physical activity as it relates to health benefits and risk factors. Healthy body, healthy mind!
