The Importance of Mother’s Day
By Emily Young MA ‘16
Once you go to college, the significance of Mother’s Day increases exponentially. College makes you realize, that Mom was right…..a lot. Even though you graduated from high school, it doesn’t mean you’re ready to take on college and live on your own.
The week you finally get to college the most exhilarating of your life. You can eat whatever you want in the cafeterias, stay out late with no curfew, and basically live without any standards. Week two, three, four, and so on is a different story. The cafeteria food starts getting old, you miss having a room to yourself, and ultimately you realize you need your Mom.
In honor of Mother’s Day I’ve complied a short list of instances in college I’ve called upon my mom in times of need.
1) You realize you’re actually clueless when it comes to laundry. Hot, cold, perm press, and what the heck are you supposed to do with the handwash items?
2) You just did horribly on a test.
3) You realize the test you cried to your mom about has a major curve.
4) You try cooking for the first time in your dorm.
5) You successfully cook something in your dorm and it’s not half as good as Mom’s, but you’re excited anyways.
6) Go shopping at the store and have no clue what to get.
7) You need someone to take care of you.
8) All of your spending money is gone.
9) Because you legitimately miss your Mom and she is always there for you.
10) It’s Mother’s Day!
Thanks for always answering my trivial life questions and being there for me. Love you Mom!
