The Ultimate Meditation Playlist

By: Ellice Ellis '20

It’s almost spring break, Trojans! Many of us have taken one or two midterms, outlined key term papers, or are gearing up to take a relaxing week off from our studies.

For myself, I stress more than ever before winter break, summer break, or spring break because I try to balance relaxing and being productive before the vacation period even starts. If you’ve found yourself in this boat or are just generally stressed about school, work or life — this post is for you.

I have written before on meditation, how it has benefitted my life immensely and helped me through some of my toughest times. You can read about it here.  To add to some of the tips and tricks I outlined, I’ve created a meditation playlist to guide you through your practice.

And if meditation isn’t your thing, this is a great playlist to start the day with, study with, or to do absolutely nothing with while lying sit and bed.

Check out the playlist here! And if you’re interested in my favorite songs and what they mean to me, keep reading.

1. Dreams x Solange

The song opens with "I grew up a little girl with dreams…“ The soft and sweet melody is my morning alarm tone and populates my mind with a reminder of my purpose and dreams. For a person who loves to sleep, I transition out of bed smoothly with this tune; without the reminder of my aspirations… I’d probably miss my 10 am lecture.

2. Trigger Protection Mantra x Jhené Aiko

For those Trojans who want a tune to meditate to, this is for you! With few lyrics, you can focus on breathing and letting your thoughts come and go as they are!

3. Closer x Goapele

Closer is one of my all-time favorites. As she sings "closer to my dreams,” I am reminded of how close I am to graduation and starting a new chapter in life. For anyone feeling stuck or hopeless…this track is for you!

4. All of the Lights (Interlude) x Kanye West

You’re probably familiar with Kanye's "All of the Lights,“ but this version is a bit different. The instrumental is perfect to put on a loop or as another alarm tone. It’s a refreshing take on the song to refresh your day.

5. Naima x John Coltrane

There’s nothing better than classic John Coltrane. This one is for all my jazz-lovers. Initially composed by Coltrane for his wife, nicknamed Naima, it’s perfect to put you in a blissful sleep.

Happy Meditating!
