Things To Do This Fall Break!

By: Dara Udobong ‘23

It might just be October, but I already feel like we’ve been at this for ages. Can we attribute this mid-term fatigue to their namesake exams? Or is it more of a heavier transition from online school to being in-person again? Either ways, old or new, senior or freshman, this semester has been a huge learning curve for all of us, so here are a couple of ways we think you could make this break live up to its name:

Meet the Outdoors

Seriously guys, go touch some grass. After a full year and then some indoors, who can’t but enjoy all the great outdoors has to offer? Whether its hiking, fishing, snowboarding, or camping, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Going with a group?

USC student groups like Peaks and Professors and SCOutfitters have a bunch of outdoor trips planned for this weekend, member or not! Hang out with other students, make new friends, and learn something new.

Going alone?

We get it, there’s nothing like finding yourself amongst nature. Check out these cool trails LA has to offer.

Visit The Box Office

Why does it feel like streaming services and Hollywood always wait till the last quarter of the year to drop fan favourites? Like what on earth happened to summer? After what feels like an eternity, these long-awaited films/series are hitting the big screens this October: Army of Thieves, Last Night in Soho, Dune, The French Dispatch, The Last Duel (and much more Timothee Chalamet, lol).

Didn’t catch these yet? Take a day trip to the cinema this weekend to watch these Box Office hits: Venom: Let There be Carnage, No Time to Die, Shang-Chi: And The Legend of the 10 Rings, and so much more!

Netflix and Chill

With midterm season coming to a gracious end, you probably haven’t had enough time to catch up on these hot new shows dominating the streaming world! Check them out here: Squidgame, Season 3 of You, and Blood & Water.

Need a little comedy? Watch Kim Kardashian West host SNL in an unexpectedly hilarious debut on Hulu or Peacock, or check out Dave Chapelle’s new Netflix special Dave Chapelle: The Closer.

Kick It w/ an Outdoor Movie

Ah yes, the 90s called again. When it comes to drive-in theatre, it doesn’t even matter what the movie is. Thankfully, these outdoor movie theatres specialize in only your nostalgic favourites. They have everything from Clueless to American Psycho, so check out which movies will be showing this weekend!

Concerts

Tinashe, the Rolling Stones, Machin Gun Kelly, and many more have concerts lined up for this weekend! Grab a few friends and show up for your favourite artists! Alternatively, step out of your comfort zone and go for a concert featuring a totally new artist and gain a new experience.

Museums

USC is surrounded by a bunch of cool tourist attractions to check out, so take the chance! Check out the Natural History Museum, The Californian African American Museum, The Rose Garden, Exposition Park Events, or USC’s very own Fisher Museum of Art!

Remember: USC Students get free Showtime, and HBO Max too, so there;s plenty to enjoy!
