USC Fashion Blogger Taylor Jean Gorski
By Samantha Romero ‘16
For some people picking out an outfit can seem like a bore but for Journalism major and fashion blogger Taylor Jean, it is a form of art to express yourself. From fashion advice for students on the go to major trend spotting at this year’s Coachella read more about Taylor’s fashionable advice below in a one on one Q & A with the fashionista.
Q: What is your major and how did you go about choosing that major? When do you graduate?
A: I’m studying Journalism. I decided on journalism because I have a passion for writing and I think journalism is so important for this world. Others stories intrigue me, I’m constantly curious. I feel like whatever I end up choosing as a career (because I’m not exactly sure what I want to do yet) it has to involve something I love…along the lines of writing, photographing, fashion, and traveling, which all can relate to journalism. May 2019 is my excepted graduation date, because I want to take an extra semester to study abroad!
Q. What do you enjoy most about being a USC student?
A:Top three things….
1.I love how there is always something going on or someone to see at USC.
2.Everyone does their own thing but there’s still such a strong community feel here.
3.Definitely can’t beat walking to class on our beautiful campus under the palm trees and sunny skies.
“I look up to them because they all aren’t afraid to wear what they want, and show a sense of confidence in it. That’s what I love about style in general, fashion is an art.”
Q: Who are your style idols and why?
A:Cara Delevigne, Mimie Lashiry, Gigi Hadid, and Alexa Chung. And Jaden Smith!
I wouldn’t necessarily consider them “style icons” but I look up to them because they all aren’t afraid to wear what they want, and show a sense of confidence in it. That’s what I love about style in general, fashion is an art. It’s up to you to express what you want to the world through fashion and not care what others think. Dress how you feel, put your own touch on it, feel comfortable and confident.
Q:Tell us about your blog Just Taylor Jean. What is it about/ or what does it revolve around?
A:My blog was created as soon as I graduated high school in 2014. It actually had a different name at the time, but actually a few months ago I changed it to Just Taylor Jean. I like using my first and middle name because my blog is all my own voice.
Just Taylor Jean is revolved around lifestyle, so it includes anything from my travel experiences, to recipes and cool restaurants, to a random jumble of thoughts that I feel like sharing. I post my “Latest Loves” every season which includes food, fashion, music, and other things I’m really into at the moment.
I love having the space to create, and the content I want to post on it is totally up to me. I’m completely in love with life and want to share the beauty of it with others. I want to send the message to live fully and positively, and also have a place where others can draw inspiration from, too.
Q: For how long have you been blogging?
A: Ah, I guess it’s been 2 years now!
Q: What are your top 3 favorite bloggers that you follow on Instagram?
A:Man Repeller (@manrepeller), Chiara Ferragni (@chiaraferragni), and TuulaVintage (@tuulavintage)
Can I add a 4th? Cartia Mallan is awesome, she creates some really great videos on Youtube. (@cartiamallan)
Q:I noticed you went to Coachella, what were some major festival style trends you spotted?
A:I did! The style at Coachella is incredible and everyone completely rocks their own look which I totally adore. I definitely noticed a lot of chokers and denim being worn, but for the most part outfits were unique (and perfect for dancing in the desert). Lace bralettes, adidas, booties, long flowy dresses, kimonos, overalls, floral patterns, no shirts at all…
Q: Whats your go to outfit advice for a student on the go?
A:Definitely a crew neck and jean shorts with some sneakers. You can’t go wrong with throwing this on and add a cute baseball hat to this look if you are really in a rush!
Q: What are your favorite stores to go shopping?
A:Urban Outfitters, Free People, Abercrombie, and one-of-a-kind boutiques,
Q: Where to you go for style inspiration?
A:People watching in LA and New York City is the best. Since I unfortunately can’t spend my life doing that, I love to pull style inspo from magazines, online websites (Refinery 29 is my go to!), Instagram, and even catalogues like Free People. Instagram is my all time favorite though, you get to see what models wear on a day to day basis. You are able to see a curation of photos from different events, even if you didn’t attend, such as Coachella or NYFW.
I think it’s important to remember that your life is up to you, and you choose how you live it. Be kind to yourself and others, do what you love/what makes you happiest, eat well, have fun, look up to see the beauty around, and enjoy every second.
