Work On It Wednesday: The Best Career Websites

By Emily Young MA ‘16

Don’t know where to look for jobs online other than ConnectSC?  Don’t worry,  we’ve got you covered!

The Best Career Sites:

LinkedIn

Recruiters and hiring managers use LinkedIn more than any other website to connect with job candidates. LinkedIn is the largest professional social networking site, but did you also know LinkedIn also has job postings?

To find job openings, you can go to the LinkedIn Jobs web page and search by job title, keyword or company.  You can also do an advanced search to include additional search criteria.  On the Jobs page, you can also look for jobs under the sections for “Jobs You May be Interested In” and “Jobs in Your Network”.  Also companies that allow you to apply through LinkedIn make it very easy!

GlassDoor

This is one of my personal favorite sites since you can search salaries. It allows you to search for jobs, as well as research salaries and company reviews written by employees. Simply sign up (it’s free!) and you have a bucket load of research and reference materials available at your fingertips.

IndeedSimplyHired.com, & Monster.com

These job aggregators are Google-like search engine for jobs and one of the most efficient sites for surveying listings, since it aggregates information from job boards, news sites and company listings. An advanced search function allows you to drill down on a location, keywords and salary range.

Career Specific

  • Idealist.org  it’s the best job board for non-profit jobs and volunteer opportunities.
  • USAJobs, the massive listing of federal jobs.

And I am sure there are many more that I haven’t gotten around to visiting.  Happy job hunting!
