6 Coupon Sites For The Starving College Student

By Judy Lee ‘17

We’ve all been there–top ramen and water. If not, are you even in college good for you! However, it’d be nice to save more here and there when budgeting becomes a burden. Personally, I get the drawbacks of that: cutting stuff out of the ads that get shoved into your mailbox just feels a little stodgy, and it becomes too much of a process. Luckily, there are online versions that work perfectly well–if not better! Here are seven:

1. UNiDAYS

Unidays is a wonderful app that will aggregate various deals specifically tailored for university students. You’ll need your university email in order to make an account, and the deals will pop up with new ones every now and then to keep you on your toes. Generally, it’s a lot of flash sales from clothing stores. However, there are other vendors on the app such as Apple and McDonalds.

2. RetailMeNot

Classic. You probably already knew this one–it’s an oldie but a goodie. Great for the most random coupon codes, this site is crowdsourced as well as curated by its constituents. What’s even more helpful is that it’ll let you know when it expires, how many people have used it, and what rate of success it has.

3. SlickDeals

This one’s a smorgasbord of a lot of different items. What’s great about it is that this is also a crowdsourced site that aggregates not just retail, but a lot of different items. For instance, you’ll find that although tech item coupon codes may seem few and far between on other online coupon sites, they’re no strangers to this site.

4. FatWallet

One of many rebate commission sites, FatWallet allows you to get cash back on the items posted on their page. This way, it’s kind of a delayed-reaction. However, it’s still savings at the end of the day. Not shying away from big name brands, this is a good bet for mainstream shoppers.

5. Ebates

Another great cash back site, Ebates partners with major stores as well. According to their site, “You get Cash Back at over 1,800 stores every time you start your shopping trip at Ebates. There are no points to redeem, no forms to mail in and no fees. Stores pay Ebates a commission for sending you their way, and Ebates shares the commission with you as Cash Back.”

6. Honey

This one isn’t a website, but a plugin you can use on Google Chrome. On applicable websites, this plugin will do all the coupon searching work for you. Just turn it on and let it run, and it will cycle through various coupon codes until one (hopefully) works. If multiple are valid, it will automatically choose the best deal of them.
