The Stuck In LA Checklist

By Judy Lee ‘17

Stuck in LA for winter break? No problem. Finals are over, and a staycation doesn’t get any better than:

A walk through a museum

Not only does this make you classy, this will make you confront yourself through art. Why not feel that kind of soul-shaking experience where there are so many to choose from? There’s The Broad, LACMA, Getty Center, MOCA, The Museum of Tolerance, The Japanese American History Museum, among others.

A photo shoot in Getty Villa

Don’t mistake it with the Getty! Getty Villa is in a different place entirely. This is a lush outdoor area perfect for the fresh profile picture you’ve been waiting for that (bonus points!) also features art indoors.

The Graffiti Walk

Mostly around Arts District and Little Tokyo, browse street art! This is as close to the art of the people you can get. Get up close and personal with an art so vilified by society, but has the potential to be poetic.

Hiking trip

There are a multitude of trails to choose from, but popular ones include Runyon Canyon and the Hollywood Sign trails! Make sure you read up on level of difficulties (incline, length of trail, etc).

Rooftop soiireeing

The Standard/Perch/Rooftop are great places for a drink with a view. However, this can also get kind of pricey. For rooftop on a budget, try Gateway or Lorenzo rooftops.

The World Tour

Visit as many “littles” as you can and try the cuisine! There are many to choose from: Little Tokyo, KoreaTown, Little Armenia, FilipinoTown, and some amazing Cuban and Mexican food down Pico!

An Echo Park Reflection

The Echo Park fountain is the perfect place for a serene walk and self-reflection. With multiple benches and lots of lush grass, it also doubles as a great picnic spot.

The Santa Monica Pier/beach

Obviously, a must. Spend a day frolicking in the sun and the night on the pier amongst the rollercoasters and night life.
