I’ll level with you all. I have never played lacrosse. I know it’s the one shortcoming of my sports education. But just because I have not played it does not mean I cannot enjoy it. And I do enjoy it and YOU SHOULD TOO. I interviewed for this blogging position before the Fall 2014 semester started. At that time, Trojans 360 wasn’t even called Trojans 360 — Andrea, our supervisor, was thinking of names as she was mapping out our initiatives. Before there were a team of writers it was only me and Kelly. Andrea was discussing with USC Student Affairs about forming a new lifestyle blog that discussed topics pertinent to the college experience. More importantly, we were asked to shed light on the USC experience. This is where Kelly and I came in. We hoped that by incorporating our stories to these topics, students will be able to resonate with what we had to say. Although we all at times may feel small in a student body as large as USC’s, it’s important to understand you’re never alone. I truly hope that our content has accomplished what we aimed to do!

If I were a freshman or sophomore, the top class I would have on my registration list is USC President Nikias’s class “The Culture of the Athenian Democracy” (CORE 200). Almost anything can be tied back to the ancient Greeks in some manner: democracy, personal freedom, debate, rhetoric, fine art, architecture, the Olympics, even common sayings. Studying the classics, Antigone, Oedipus the King, and Philoctetes, allows you to examine society today from a different lens. Do the ends always justify the means? Is there honor in lying to serve a nobler cause? Is heroism a struggle against fate? Not only will the readings lead to interesting discussions, the discussions will be lead by one of the greatest minds at USC, President Max Nikias.

Rini Sampath and Jordan Fowler are the first all-female running ticket in USC and Pac-12 history. Despite a discouraging remark from a fellow peer–– who expressed her concerns of having two female student leaders––Rini and Jordan have received an overwhelming amount of support from both men and women, Greek and non-Greek students alike. They’re also the most endorsed ticket in USC history, currently standing tall with 48. I had a chance to meet with them after their debate and discuss platform points, USG background, and how these two accomplished women came to become partners in crime this USG election.
